SOLVING EQUATIONS A MATH 8 WEBQUEST
How do you use equations in everyday life?
Mr. O'Neill has a dilemma. He desparately needs a new car. However, he has certain requirements for his car, and his budget will only allow $500 per month for car expenses. He travels about 15,000 miles each year, so he needs a car that is highly dependable and gets very good gas mileage. He is able to put down $3,500 and is willing to finance the car for five years. His wife would like to remind you, however, that she also wants a car that looks good. Minivans are out of the question. They occasionally need to tow items or transport heavy things, so sports utility vehicles and trucks are appropriate. Additional limitations include the following:
-
The $500 per-month cost must include gasoline
-
The interest rate is based on the dealer: lots of dealers offer 0% for 48(4 yrs) or 60(5 yrs) months.
-
The car can be no older than a 2013 model because it needs to last for many years.
What vehicle would you recommend for Mr. O'Neill? Prepare a written report and/or a presentation for your recommendation.
